The Tortoise, you know, carries his house on his back. No matterhow hard he tries, he cannot leave home. They say that Jupiter punished him so, because he was such a lazy stay一at-home that he would not go to Jupiter's wedding, even when especially invited.
After many years, Tortoise began to wish he had gone to thatwedding. When he saw how gaily the birds flew about and how theHare and the Chipmunk and all the other animals ran nimbly by, alwayseager to see everything there was to be seen, the Tortoise felt verysad and discontented. He wanted to see the world too, and there he was with a house on his back and little short legs that could hardly drag him along.
One day he met a pair of Ducks and told them all his trouble. "We can help you to see the world," said the Ducks. "Take holdof this stick with your teeth and we will carry you far up in the air where you can see the whole countryside. But keep quiet or you will be sorry."The Tortoise was very glad indeed. He seized the stick firmlywith his teeth, the two Ducks took hold of it one at each end, and away they sailed up toward the clouds. Just then a Crow flew by. He was very much astonished at thestrange sight and cried: "This must surely be the King of Tortoises!""Why certainly-" began the Tortoise. But as he opened his mouth to say these foolish words he lost hishold on the stick, and down he fell to the ground, where he was dashed to pieces on a rock.

很多年過(guò)去了,，烏龜開(kāi)始希望自己曾經(jīng)去參加過(guò)婚禮。鳥(niǎo)兒們歡快地在天空飛來(lái)飛去,，兔子啊,，花鼠啊，還有其他所有的動(dòng)物們,，都敏捷地跑來(lái)跳去,。烏龜只能眼睜睜地看著，渴望自己也能看到它們所看到的一切,。烏龜垂頭喪氣的,，一肚子不高興。它也想看看這個(gè)世界,，可是背上總是馱著個(gè)房子,，短短的四條腿又只能拖著它慢慢騰騰地爬動(dòng)。
有一天,，烏龜遇見(jiàn)了一對(duì)野鴨,，把自己的苦惱告訴了它們。 “我們可以幫你欣賞整個(gè)世界,?！币傍唫冋f(shuō)，“用牙齒咬住這根樹(shù)枝,，我們將帶你飛上高高的天空,，這樣你就可以看到整個(gè)鄉(xiāng)村的景色了。 不過(guò),，你一定要安安靜靜,，不要開(kāi)口說(shuō)話，不然就慘啦,。” 烏龜聽(tīng)了非常高興,，用牙齒緊緊地咬住樹(shù)枝,。兩只野鴨各自抓住樹(shù)枝的一端，向著天空中漂浮的云彩飛去,。 就在這時(shí),，一只烏鴉從它們身邊飛過(guò)。看到這幕奇怪的景象,，烏鴉驚訝萬(wàn)分,，叫道:“這一定是烏龜們的國(guó)王?！? “當(dāng)然是啦—”烏龜剛開(kāi)口說(shuō),。 就在它張嘴說(shuō)出這些蠢話的時(shí)候，牙齒松開(kāi)了咬著的樹(shù)枝,。就這樣,，烏龜直直地向地面掉去，砸在一塊石頭上摔了個(gè)粉身碎骨,。
